Union Minister for Education, Dharmendra Pradhan, chaired the Global Young Scientists Conference and Annual General Meeting of the Global Young Academy at IIT Hyderabad, underscoring India's commitment to empathetic, ethical, and equitable science through global collaboration.

The week-long International Conference of Young Scientists, themed "Confluence of Visionaries: Empowering Science for Global Change," is being hosted by the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IIT-H) in collaboration with the Global Young Academy (GYA), the Indian National Young Academy of Science (INYAS), and the Indian National Science Academy (INSA). Running from June 8 to June 14, 2025, this marks the first time such an event is held in India, bringing together 135 international delegates from 60 countries, alongside 65 national delegates.

In his address, Pradhan extended a warm welcome to the young scientists and congratulated the 30 new members inducted into the Global Young Academy during the event. He lauded the GYA for choosing India and IIT Hyderabad as the host, emphasising that the conference transcended a mere gathering of scientists, serving instead as a forum representing hope, purpose, and a shared destiny for humanity.

Highlighting India's ancient philosophy, Pradhan reiterated that “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam – One Earth, One Family, One Future” – is not merely a slogan but a way of life for the nation. He articulated India's belief in science that is empathetic, ethical, and equitable, stressing that scientific knowledge must be shared globally and that "partnerships, not patents," should drive future advancements.

The Minister cited several Indian initiatives, including the International Solar Alliance, the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure, Mission LiFE, and the India Science and Research Fellowship, as reflections of India's vision of "Vishwa Bandhutva" (global friendship through science). He urged scientists, innovators, and policymakers to seize the current opportune moment to build ecosystems and solutions that empower the most vulnerable populations, expressing confidence that the conference would channel knowledge for the service of others. Pradhan also encouraged scientists to co-create and collaborate with a sense of purpose and empathy to realise the vision of “Viksit Bharat” and advance human-centric development.

A symbolic gesture towards environmental sustainability, Pradhan, accompanied by other dignitaries, planted saplings at the IIT Hyderabad Campus as part of the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” initiative. He described this act as "a small act with a deep message and big impact," urging students across campuses to lead this green movement and engage in protecting, preserving, and nurturing nature for a sustainable future.

The conference agenda features dynamic discussions and thematic sessions on critical global issues, including Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG); Health and Nutrition for Global Wellness; Industry 5.0: Augmenting Human-Machine Interface; and Innovation and Entrepreneurship: Global Landscape.
